PRELIM: The Task + the Techniques Included

The Prelim task:

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

continuity task - Where everything feels logical and flows in accordance. If this is broken the shot will feel unnatural and manipulated.

match on action - This is continuing a shot through editing making the shot last longer. For example opening a door using 2 different shots.

shot/reverse shot -  This is the positioning of the camera between 2 actors whilst having a conversation and relaying between the 2.

180-degree rule - This is an imaginary line between 2 or more actors whilst having a conversation this must not be crossed when filming otherwise the actors will look like they are speaking to themselves.
