Initial Idea of Target Audience
We thought about our target audience but came to the conclusion we wanted something that we would enjoy going to see. Therefore we needed to be the target audience the same age as ourselves.
Which would mean a target audience of 15-24 which we thought would be appropriate as we also know this is the age group that visits the cinema the most, and this would also be the age that our characters would be in our film as we would find it harder getting younger or older actors as we are a micro budget production company and would have to pay for older and potentially younger actors which is something we don't want to be doing the the expense isn't necessary.
Our genre choice also is popular amongst teenagers so we feel this helps anchor our choice too. We have also chosen to set our film in a school so therefore trying to attract an audience that is not at school is silly therefore the 15-24 will incorporate students at school, sixth form, college or university which keeps many 'doors' open. At the end of the day everyone has been to school so will be able to relate to our film in some way. However we took ideas and inspiration from films we had looked at in detail.
We thought it would be easier to base our target audience on films we had already seen as if we are taking inspiration from them we feel it must be important to carry on the same target audience as it must be the same or close to theirs. Therefore it was important to look at the films we had looked at in detail therefore we chose ones that we liked and enjoyed and all roughly targeted the same age range for audience.

Pitch
WORKING TITLE: The Lonely Obsession
SYNOPSIS: Rom-com: jealousy in a love triangle using an object of desire that being the guy that a girl falls in love with who her best friend steals from her.
COMPARABLE TO: Sliding Doors and Bridget Jones' Diary
- my ident will be shown
- titles will be shown in a scrapbook theme including news paper articles, pictures, train tickets - shots of her best friend are defaced as she is flicking throughout but doesn't give the reason why until the end of the voice over
- with a monologue over the top - no emotion in voice and quite dry.
- the beginning will technically be the end of the film. using flashbacks and distorted music.
- there will also be a montage of her efforts - to try and win the guy - but she's shy - these are also shown as flashbacks - back to present day
NARRATIVE:
CHARACTERS:
As i am showing the characters in a love triangle binary opposites have to be introduced to signify why there is conflict. i am conveying the 2 female characters as being total opposites but before the guy came along becoming very good friends. this being something unusual in itself provides insight into their lives as to why they got on before and things they had in common. i have created the male character to be more likely to fit with hannah although it is olivias crush - we also learn from the film that she does like him just not as much as olivia and is just doing it out of spite and to show she could get him.
COSTUMES:
Hannah who is perceived as the protagonist will be wearing slightly more fashionable clothing consisting of shorter slightly more revealing clothing signifying therefore that she is the prettier one and 'in' with the popular kids - her hair will be curled and will look almost perfect - her make up will be bold and will stand out.
her room will be messy and full of doodles with pictures around the room.
Olivia who is perceived as the antagonist will be modest clothing wearing girly pink colours preferably a floral dress with a cardigan over the top creating the stereotypical nerd glasses maybe added for extra emphasis but for me personally i dont see it as a necessity. she will be stereotypically be brunette her hair will be completed with clips or a headband or be tied back and make up will be very natural and minimalistic.
her room will be littered with science groups and textbooks to reinforce the 'nerd' factor this creates a binary opposite between the 2 female characters.
For the guy who is not named as i haven't searched for interest will be wearing fashionable clothing, will like sport and this will be shown through muscle if possible.. if not a reference can be exchanged.
PROPS:
- scrapbook - titles - this is the beginning of the end of the film
- table - the scrapbook will be placed on here - homely - security - safe
- phone - will be used for messaging between the characters - maybe showing bitchy comments or remarks or maybe messages from the boyfriend to either one in the love triangle
- messy room - stereotypical teenage - creating relatability
- flashbacks - this is then shown as a relection on the character creating tension and conveying different emotions

Podcast 2
This is our 2nd podcast
Idea2
Scrapbook Idea |
The scrapbook would still be filled with the same pictures but other things like train tickets and music festival wristband etc.
As before the titles that will come up on screen fading in and out as this is one of the things we realised was popular with rom com films when conducting our research.
From the photo album some of the images will seem to 'come alive' turning into flash backs of her efforts to get her love interest for the rest of the opening. As i hope to create a love triangle between 2 best friends and a guy. And then this to cause conflict therefore creating tension etc.

Genre Research: Trick Or Treat, 1986
Charles Martin Smith,1986
Production:De Laurentiis Entertainment Group (DEG)
We hope to use this kind of scene, with the protagonist waving but it being for someone behind them instead as we feel this looks and works really well, and also adds for a small amount of humiliation which in our rom com is something that is needed. We liked also the fact that it as set in a school and shows him at a locker getting books out with the busy corridor we thought it looked interesting and kept with the verisimilitude. we liked the approaching shot as it was a point of view shot which we thought worked really well. As we thought it the varied angles really worked well.
We also hope to take inspiration from when she walks past as the camera tracks with a point of view shot. We thought it looked really good and adds to a shot variety so the audience doesn't become bored.
Also for our other ideas we liked the humiliation in the canteen with the milk carton and milk being spilt out of the carton due to a hole in it. And with the shot after of students in the school the 'jocks' laughing at him
We also liked this shot as it is a low angle showing his vulnerability against some of the 'cheerleader' types. with them looking down on him showing that they have more power and authority over him. this is added to the fact they are girls and he's a boy therefore also showing a binary opposition.

Things We Hope To Use:
Some of the interesting shots and some of the scene ideas.
For one of the shots of our Geek character we hope to use the front of school for some of the scenes of him coming into school.we will use this location for its effect with the iron gates as we think this could create some nice and interesting shots to keep the audience interested. We thought this maybe a good way to do this.
We also want to have a dramatic effect of shame or embarrassment for this we are thinking something like this but maybe not as extreme as for the many takes and time that it would take that we don't have but we hope to re create something like this.
We also want to create school scenes of some sort with him in the classroom however we also think it might be a nice idea to show the girl being bullied and having problems at school and therefore it would be nice to try copy and re create some of these scenes and maybe add our own twist on them.
We thought that these school scenes although they were not really what we wanted it gave us inspiration to do something along the same lines however we are not sure what. We might use it to do school scenarios but we dont want him sitting in a classroom as we want it to be snappy as we don't have a lot of time to do something like that.

Ideas That We Might Use:
The use of diegetic titles, when we watched this we liked the creative touch and liked the way they were incorporated into the film we hope to try and re create some of these using our own creative flare.
We liked the use of the of the food for our titles.
We liked the library card idea and the picture idea but we thought as we are doing this on a low budget these would be hard to re create and not look as good.
We liked the packaging idea and we thought this would work with our film opening.
We liked some of the others like the ones below as we thought these were different and creative and not like the others that we had seen in the rest of the opening. However we think these maybe difficult to recreate.

Things We Hope To Use:
we thought it would be nice in our film opening to have some scenes of them walking into school therefore we took some inspiration from the outside of the school from this film. We liked the bus that was in the shot with the line of cars and bikes with the school in the background, showing there is a mix of wealth within the school.

We liked the bus that was in the shot with the line of cars and bikes with the school in the background, showing there is a mix of wealth within the school.
We wanted to create our protagonist to be the outsider so we plan to do this by showing her with odd and therefore not the stereotypical fashionable items of clothing and possibly things that do not match or look good together. We also want to cast her preferably with ginger hair as this also signifies her being an outsider.
We were inspired with this shot we liked the trainer idea and the fact you cant see his face therefore creating narrative enigma. We also liked the other peoples feet in the shot adding to the fact its a school in a busy corridor.
We liked how the cheerleader character was shown and we hope to take some inspiration from this as we like her hair and the way she looks and the dress idea.
we like the extreme close ups of her doing her make up and this is something we want to try and copy as we think it will look good and give us a bit of shot variety.
we wanted to portray our male character like this as we thought it would be different on a typical rom com with stereotypes. We also thought that because we are a micro production company we want to show off our creative talent by also having counter-types and a normative representations. we liked the costume as it contained a hat and sunglasses which a not normal in a school situation. we also liked the blazer and shirt idea. But we think it might be easier to show him in a waistcoat instead. we think this will show and demonstrate to the audience who we are trying to produce. We really like this costume as soon as we saw it whilst conducting our research we knew we had to take inspiration or copy the costume idea as it was exactly what we wanted to portray.
We thought the start to the start of the film was different and therefore not conventional which is something we want to try and take inspiration from. We liked the fact it wasn't stereotypical and the setting was cloudy with grey skies with a working class background in comparison to conventional films which often had the opposite to this. We liked the urban look and thought that it would suit our rom com with a twist. We liked the fact that there was a pink car outside and we thought this added to the protagonists character. We thought it worked in contrast having a pink car outside with the gloomy background which also made it standout colour wise but also made it stand out as it looks almost out of place which we liked.
